Propecia or Rogaine, the Right
Choice for
Me?

Side effects - Do they work? How long do they last?
A national TV ad campaign is running for one of
the two legitimate hair restoration products: Propecia
(Finasteride) or Rogaine (Minoxidil) that states “85% of men successfully
grew hair.” WOW, 85% sounds GREAT doesn’t it?
What they
conveniently left out of the commercial was “How Much
Hair” they grew. if two new
hairs grew from using their product they can legally claim it
"grew hair." The information presented here will put some
real numbers on those claims as well as cover
possible Side Effects. Read on for the rest of the story.
Lotions,
Potions & Toads
There are 1,000’s of miracle herbs, shampoos
and “Ancient Chinese Remedies” that according to their sales
pitches, grow hair. The fact is that Rogaine
(Minoxidil) and Propecia (Finasteride)
are the only hair growing preparations recognized as even
mildly effective by the medical and scientific community. We
emphasize they are at best, MILDLY
effective.
How well does Propecia or Rogaine actually work?
The best candidates are younger men under
35 in early balding stages and who have a good amount of
vellus (thin, peach fuzz) in their balding area. If you
don’t meet that criteria, don’t waste your time and money;
you won’t see results.
Rogaine
(Minoxidil)
Rogaine was originally taken internally to treat high blood
pressure. An interesting side effect was that it seemed to
have the ability to reverse or slow down the balding process
in some men. Rogaine may slow down hair loss and is reported
to stimulate limited hair growth in about
25% of patient s
who use it.
However, Upjohn admits that “no effect on frontal baldness
has been demonstrated with Rogaine.”
Propecia (Finasteride)
Propecia was originally used as a prostate enlargement
medication. Like Minoxidil, it has demonstrated an ability
to slow hair thinning and promote hair growth in some men
with mild to moderate
hair loss.

In a double blind study, effects on hair growth (if any)
began about three months after starting treatment. The
average density in males without hair loss is 2000 per
square inch. In balding patients, the average density was
800. After one year of treatment, the balding patients had
an average density of 900 in the one-inch observation site
plus a somewhat increased hair diameter. An increase of
12% in hair density is hardly something to get excited about
for all that time and expense, wouldn’t you
agree?
Both drugs require a lifetime commitment. If
treatment is stopped, any gains experienced will
completely reverse themselves and cannot be
recovered. If you are not willing to commit to a
lifetime of putting a chemical substance into your
system, don’t even start, it’s a waste of time.
Rogaine and Propecia
reported Side Effects
We could literally fill dozens of pages of
reported side effects, these are just a sample of some of
the more common side effects as reported by users.
Feeling strange on Propecia
"Today I've decided to stop Propecia. Having read all the posts
I have noticed that after 3 months of Propecia I have
most of the symptoms mentioned such as: absent-mindedness,
sex problems, suffering from Insomnia, and I absolutely feel
strange."
Tyler
Mood Swings
"Is there a side effect noted in Propecia of mood swings,
irritability, loss of anger control? My husband is taking
Propecia and shortly after he started he started exhibiting
these "symptoms". He is now going to a psychiatrist for
this. However, I work for a dermatologist and have noted two
patients who have also been complaining of the same "side effects",
i.e. irritability, short tempers, mood swings."
Betty
Minoxidil
"I have been using Minoxidil for approx. 2 months now. I find that
I am always feeling tired".
Juan
Heart Problems Minoxidil
According to the Food and Drug
Administration, "Hair re-growth has not been shown to last
longer
than 48 weeks of continuous treatment in large clinical
trials with Minoxidil topical solution 5% for men." In cases
where too much Minoxidil has been absorbed through the skin
there are some heart related symptoms; chest pain, fast
heartbeat, or irregular heartbeat. If you experience any of
these symptoms you should contact your doctor as soon as
possible.
10 Years on Rogaine
"Ok, I have been using Rogaine for about ten years right now. I am
31 years old. Recently I have had terrible heart pains, and
fluttering of the heart and irregular heart beats. I
honestly thought that I was having a heart attack at age 31.
There was no reason for this I thought, I am in pretty good
health. Now just by a chance, I had gotten off of Rogaine
for about a month.
After about a month I realized that I just felt better. My heart
wasn't fluttering as much, I had lost a little weight, and a
lot of the numbness and joint inflammation I was
experiencing went away.
Then I laid off the Rogaine completely, now for 3 months. The heart
problems I was experiencing, fluttering and shooting pains,
are completely gone. My heart is totally back to normal. A
lot of the numbness and inflammation in my body is gone. It
is my sincere belief that this was all because of Rogaine."

Rogaine Growth only lasts 48 Weeks
The 2% Minoxidil has been shown to stimulate
hair growth in only about 30% of male patients. That means 3
out of 10 men have some hair growth, the rest have none.
Also, new hair growth doesn't last beyond 48 weeks.
It hasn't been shown to create any new hair grow after 48 weeks.
After then, your hair only continues to grow at its natural
rate.
Propecia and Sexual Side Effects
"Propecia was prescribed to me prior to
hair transplantation. I was quoted the same comforting
statistics shared by the manufacturer. From the first week
on the medication the sexual side effects were, in a word,
drastic. I literally felt as if I had lost all sensation
below my waist. This condition only improved after I refused
to take any more of the medication. I then found numerous
web-sites where other men had complained of the same
side-effects I had but never seemed to show up in any
studies.
Speaking for myself, I would rather be as bald as a billiard ball for
life before I ever take this medication again."

What Happens if you Stop Using Propecia or
Minoxidil?
When you stop using a product like Propecia or Minoxidil, you stop
getting the benefits of that product and your hair begins to
fall out again. Your hair will continue to fall out until
you have lost all the hair that you would have lost if you
had never used the product.
After that the hair falls out at whatever
rate it was falling out before you started using the
product.Magical
Shampoos and other Secret Remedies
The FDA has brought suits against literally hundreds of
these bogus products only to see them spring up again under
another name. While you probably won’t be harmed by using
any of these so called cures, neither will they produce
results. The only certainty is that you will
continue to lose hair
and your wallet will continue to get lighter. More than 3
billion dollars each year are wasted on these “miracle”
products.
Think about this; if
any of them actually WORKED, you would be hearing about it
on every TV station and reading about it in every Newspaper
and Magazine in the country, right? A word of advice; you
might want to save your money by avoiding these bogus
products. Only Propecia or Rogaine have the slightest
benefit and for most they aren't worth the effort, expense
and possible side effects.
